BRIDGWATER MP, Ashley Fox, has taken the findings of his Crime and Safety Survey to Avon and Somerset’s Police and Crime Commissioner.
Hundreds of residents from across the Bridgwater constituency responded to the MP’s Survey, providing valuable insights into the community’s concerns around anti-social behaviour, crime hotspots, CCTV coverage, and police presence in the area.
Commenting on the survey, Ashley Fox said: “Hundreds of residents shared their concerns with me, and it’s clear that the community is eager to see more being done to prevent crime and make our streets safer.”
“I’ve taken these findings directly to the Police and Crime Commissioner and I’ve called for action to ensure our concerns are heard. I specifically ensured that the Commissioner was fully aware of the ongoing antisocial behaviour issues on Fore Street and around Browne's Pond at Elmwood Avenue.”
He added: “It’s important that we work together to create a safer environment for everyone in Bridgwater.”
Anti-social behaviour was one issue raised by the Police and Crime Commissioner in a Question Time session with Chief Constable, Sarah Crew. Avon and Somerset Police has 37 anti-social behaviour hotspots, and 34 serious violence hotspots.
The MP assured residents that he will continue working closely with local authorities, the police, and community leaders and remains committed to keeping crime prevention and community safety at the forefront of his work.
Mr Fox’s Crime and Safety Survey highlighted key concerns that residents want addressing. These key concerns include the need for greater CCTV coverage in public areas across Bridgwater to deter crime and increased police visibility on the streets.
In addition, residents raised their concerns about specific crime hotspots within the town, citing issues including anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and vandalism. The survey also uncovered concerns about illegal traveller encampments and knife crime and violence, with a desire for preventative measures to tackle the latter issue.
